| A Message From Our New Pastor I am happy to welcome each of you to Community today, to join with the fine members of the Community Baptist Church family in this historic Installation Service. On April 29, 1925 a few faithful worshippers of Bayside met in the home of Sister Buffalo on Prince Street with the Rev. S.P.Sutton as their spiritual advisor. At this meeting they voted to organize a Church in Bayside bearing the name, The Colored Community Church of Bayside. The group decided to hold service in the Chapel of All Saints Parish Hall, there were 15 members in attendance at that first meeting, and the first offering was $3.45. On October 14, 1928 a meeting was held at the All Saints Parish Hall on Montauck Ave, and Second Street in Bayside. At this meeting the name was changed to the Bayside Community Baptist Church. The first Pastor was The Rev. S. W. Sutton. On November 15, 1928 our church was formally recognized and set apart by the Eastern Baptist Association, what a blessing it is to have our strong, visionary and capable Moderator as the preacher for today’s occasion Rev. H. Devore Chapman. From a small group of Christians to this beautiful and promising congregation of today, we have come this far by faith in Almighty God. I pause to honor and thank God for the list of Pastors who have preceded me. Rev. S.W. Sutton, Rev. Spencer W. Miles, Rev. Caleb Griffin, Rev. Dr. J.C. Brown, Rev. E.R. Artist Rev. Edward Jackson, Rev. W.G. Sharp, Rev. Dr. Robert L. Ryan and Rev. Dr. Samuel Berthal Joubert, Sr. Rev. Dr. Samuel Berthal Joubert Sr., Pastor Emeritus, will be known for his integrity, strong values & moral leadership. He will also be remembered for his emphasis on giving to the cause of home and foreign missions. . Dr. Samuel Berthal Joubert Sr. was used by God to break the status quo by introducing female trustees, female deacons and female preachers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A man of great faith he is well respected for his wisdom and knowledge of kingdom work across the city, state and the world. I also pay tribute and thank God for my lovely mother, Rev. Doris Joyce Lee Thorpe Joubert. She has always been a source of encouragement and inspiration from the rocking of my cradle until now. A special tribute is also in order for all of the fine laymen and women of our church, past and present who labored so that we can now enjoy the comfort of worshipping in this building. I am grateful to God for my family, my mother–in-law, Rev. Allean Bolden Lyas, my father-in-law, Deacon Melvyn Lyas, my sister and brothers and to my sister-in-laws and my brother-in-law, all of you have been a source of strength and inspiration to me. I am also grateful to the members of the Clergy, Churches, Associations, State and National Conventions, Church Auxiliaries and Civic Organizations for their kindness and expressions of support. My special thanks to the fine, loving members of New Light Missionary Baptist Church, of Norwalk, Connecticut. “A Great Work for the Lord Jesus Christ”, and the friends of New Light who have accompanied us. Finally to Community Baptist Church I say, “ Keep your eyes on Jesus Christ, keep your knees on the floor in prayer, and keep your legs and arms busy for the Masters will”. Let us continue to work together; God has great things in store for this His Church and for our community. All things are possible through Jesus Christ Our Lord! REV. DR. PHILLIP CHARLES JOUBERT, SR.
