The Reverend Allean B. Lyas

The Reverend Allean Bolden Lyas was born, July 11, 1945, in Rondo, Arkansas.  She is the eighth child of
eighteen children born to Deacon Jefferson Bolden and the late Peoria Hollin Scruggs Bolden.  She attended the  
public schools of Rondo and Marianna, Arkansas.  In 1966, Allean graduated from Booker T. Washington High
School in Memphis, Tennessee.  In 1970, She received her certification as a Surgical Technologist at Norwalk
Hospital, Norwalk Connecticut, where she has been employed for 26 years.

Allean accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at age 10 and was baptized  in "Big Creek" in Vineyard,
Arkansas by Rev. George Hall, the pastor of the Sequell Missionary Baptist Church, Rondo, Arkansas.

Allean relocated to Connecticut in 1967, and  joined the Calvary Baptist Church under the Pastorate of the late
Rev. Dr. Samuel J. Williams.  She served in many areas of the church: Sunday School Instructor, Youth Choir
Advisor,  Member of the Gospel Chorus, Supervisor of the Junior Missionary Department, and many other areas.

In March of 1989, she became a charter member of The New Light Missionary Baptist Church under the Pastorate
of The Rev. Dr. Phillip Charles Joubert, Sr.  She has served as a Deacon, Trustee, Church Treasurer, Adult
Sunday Church School Instructor, Superintendent, Assistant Lay leader of The New Light Gospel Chorus, and
many other areas of church life.  Allean has attended numerous workshops, conventions, Congress of Christian
Education events, revivals, and has attended Bible Study and taken courses in Christian Education and Ministry
for over twenty years.  She is currently enrolled in The Hartford Seminary's Black Ministries Certificate Program.

Reverend Lyas received the call to preach in 1990 and after much prayer, fasting and faithful and constant
support of her pastor, acknowledged her call to the Gospel Ministry.  She was licensed as a Preacher of the
Gospel by The Rev. Dr. Phillip Charles Joubert, Sr. at The New Light Missionary Baptist Church of Norwalk,
Connecticut on Sunday, January 28, 1996.  

Allean is the faithful and committed wife of Deacon Melvyn Lee Lyas, the Mother of The Reverend Phyllis Yvette
Bolden, Minister Marvin Anthony Bolden, and Missionary/Deacon Gala Derene Joubert.    She is the biological
grandmother of eleven grandchildren.  She is lovingly referred to as Mother and Grandmother by many who have
been touched by her caring  and giving spirit and who have adopted her as their own.
        
Rev. Lyas' favorite Scripture is Psalm 34:1,
"I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise will continually be in my mouth!"
