The Reverend Nakia Geneva Marsh
Nakia Geneva Marsh was born, Saturday, July 14, 1979 at Bridgeport Hospital,
Bridgeport, Ct. She is the daughter of Vernon & Ella Marsh and the Sister of Dr.
Curtis L. Hardy, Jr. M.D. and his wife Pamela.
Nakia was educated at Sugar Plum Nursery where she received her Nursery
School Diploma on June 14, 1984. She also received a certificate from Design In
Dance for ballet, where she performed Singing in the Rain at the Klein Memorial
Auditorium. She attended elementary school at Eli Whitney where she received
certificates of merit and achievement in art, music and readathons. As a 5th
grader she wrote a poem titled “ I’m Just Sitting Here on a January Day!” Her
poem was published in the Bridgeport Post (now Connecticut Post). From grade
2 to grade 8. One of her pleasures was playing basketball. Nakia played for
Sterling House Community Center and was noted for her sideline 3 pointers.
Even though the teams were unisex, they were composed mostly of males the
word on the court was, Get The Ball To Nakia!
Nakia spent her middle years at Woodster Middle School, Stratford, Ct. She was
very active and involved which included playing soccer and newsletter reporter.
She played in the school band and she was as a member of the Young
Astronaut Program.
Nakia graduated from Frank Scott Bunnell High School, Stratford, Ct. She
Matriculated at Housatonic Community College before graduating High School.
She also attended The University of New Haven and Goodwin College, East
Hartford, Ct.
Nakia’s adolescence and early adulthood years were devoted to church.
October 1992 Nakia gave her life to Christ at English Chapel where she held
membership since age 6.
Nakia joined The New Light Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized and
given the Right Hand of Fellowship by Rev. Dr. Phillip Charles Joubert, Sr.,
Pastor & Teacher on January 25, 2001. She delivered her "formal" Initial sermon
on Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the New Light Missionary Baptist Church. The
sermon title was was "Occupy Until Jesus Comes" and based on Luke 19: 1-3
(CEV)Nakia was Licensed to the Gospel Miinstry on July 1, 2007 by The
Reverend Dr. Phillip Charles Joubert, Sr. and combines a unique and powerful
delivery of the preached word with tremendous talent as a musician to a create
a powerful and christ-centered ministry. As a member of the New Light Family
under Pastor Joubert’s Leadership God has opened up leadership doors. She
serves as the Musician for the New Light Church. Nakia has preached and
taught here at New Light on many occasions, she has also been blessed to
preach and teach on many other occasions including Community Baptist Church
in Bayside, Long Island NY, and for The Connecticut State Missionary Baptist
Convention, Inc., Congress of Christian Education 5th Sunday League Meeting.
Nakia is a committed, dedicated and faithful Christian always abounding in the
work of the Lord.
